1) Clarinetist Andrea Cheeseman Performs Sept. 16 at ASU

Dr. Andrea Cheeseman will present a faculty recital Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Pianists Susan Slingland and Christina Hayes, from the Hayes School of Music will provide accompaniment. The recital is free and open to the public. The music to be performed during the recital was all written in the 20th century; however, the styles range from neo-romantic to Hungarian folk music. Pieces to be performed are Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Joan Tower’s Clarinet Concert and Rezso Sokai’s Four Hungarian Dances. 

2) Scavenger Hunt Adventure Dinner

On Saturday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Please register in advance. Take your family out to dinner that is full of mystery and adventure. Gather the scavenger hunt treasures throughout the camp fire gourmet-style dinner that will be provided. Try to find all the hidden treasures while making memories that will last a lifetime. Prizes will be awarded to the team that finds the most items on the list. Hurry and sign up for this fun, family event. Space is limited!

3) Appalachian Hosts Fall Open House on Sept. 21

High school students and prospective transfer students are invited to learn about academics and campus life at Appalachian State University during its Fall Open House on Saturday, Sept. 21. The event is sponsored by the Office of Admissions. Activities begin at 9 a.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center with a Family Assembly, followed by an information fair from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The fair includes opportunities to talk with students, faculty and university representatives about admissions, financial aid, academic areas, campus support areas, student clubs and organizations, study abroad, The Honors College and other special opportunities that make up the “Appalachian experience.” There also will be a special program for transfer students. Student Ambassadors will provide tours of campus. Residence halls will be open for guided tours. Academic departments will also conduct open houses.
