Email Announcements We Are Receiving Today: See What’s Going On Around The Community

1) Free Concert at the Watauga County Library

On Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. Join local bluegrass band Creekside Grass at Watauga County Public Library for a free concert on the lawn (weather  permitting) at 140 Queen Street in downtown Boone. Creekside Grass specializes in traditional, gospel and original bluegrass music. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Library Meeting Room. All are welcome!

2) High Country Trolley Wine Tour

There are still a few tickets available for our High Country Trolley Wine Tour. Don’t miss out on this event! The July tour takes place Thursday, July 25. If you can’t make the July tour get your tickets for Aug. 22 on sale now! We will board the trolley at Erick’s Cheese and Wine at Tynecastle located between Quiznos and High Country Municipal ABC Store at 11:30 a.m. You can get your tickets at the Avery Chamber office at the intersection of N.C. 105/184 or call 828-898-5605 and let a helpful staff person assist you over the phone. 

3) Free Concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church

On Sunday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. there will be a FREE concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The New River Brass Ensemble, a quartet of faculty members from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will take you on a journey through four centuries of classics from Bach to the Beatles. St John’s is located on Herb Thomas Road, just of Mast Gap Road. Signs will be posted. Bring a picnic to share after the concert and meet our guest musicians. For more information, call 963-6309. 

4) Archaeologist Dr. Whyte at New River State Park

We are pleased to announce that ASU Archaeologist Dr. Whyte will be presenting an evening program about our local Appalachian Pre-history on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. This program will be presented at 221 Access of New River State Park.

5) Caldwell Arts Council Presents August Exhibit “Science as Art”

The Caldwell Arts Council is pleased to announce the exhibit “Science as Art,” featuring wind-generated art by Mark Nystrom of Appalachian State University in Boone, printmaking and digital art by Rebekah Tolley of Davidson and figurative sculpture by Susannah Zucker of Fairview. An artist reception is scheduled for Friday, Aug 2, from 5-7 p.m. The public is invited free of charge. The exhibit will continue through Aug. 23. The Caldwell Arts Council is located at 601 College Avenue in downtown Lenoir and is open Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, please call 828-754-2486.
