1) Watauga County Farmers’ Market is Accepting Applications

Watauga County Farmers’ Market is now accepting vendor applications for the 2013 season. Producers who reside and produce in Watauga County and the adjacent counties are eligible to apply to become a vendor at Watauga County Farmers’ Market. Craft vendors are not currently being considered. Applications are due with a $25 application fee no later than July 24. To see the complete rules and to download an application visit the “Become a Vendor” page here. Watauga County Farmers’ Market has been “Boone’s Town Square” since 1974. We are open Saturday mornings from May through October in Boone. 

2) Murphy and Main Concert

Please join us here at the Watauga County Public Library on Tuesday, July 22 for a free concert by local classic rock duo, Murphy and Main. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. For more information please contact the Reference Desk at 828-264-8784. 

3) High Country Farm Tour Photo Contest

The High Country Farm Tour photo contests will take place Aug 3-4. Contest participants will take photos both days during the tour from 2-6 p.m. while visiting their choice of 29 featured farms and breweries across Ashe, Avery, Caldwell and Watauga counties. Photos should be uploaded here by Friday, Aug. 9. The photos will be judged by Aug. 30. Winning images will be displayed in the Looking Glass Gallery in Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union during fall semester. The first-place photo will be featured on the front of the 2014 High Country Farm Tour guide. The contest is made possible by a collaboration between Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture and a Sustainability Arts Grant Award from Appalachian’s Sustainability Council. Student Leah Jaflon and instructor Courtney Baines Smith from the Department of Sustainable Development were awarded the grant and are facilitating the project. 

4) Family Film Night (ET)

On Friday the beloved story of the bond between 10-year-old Elliot and E.T., the lost little alien from space, has captured the hearts of millions across many generations since its release in 1982. The festival invites you and your family to relive the amazing story of how true friendship involved understanding and sacrifice and knows no bounds. Grab some popcorn, settle in and watch this classic tale unfold on the big screen once again.
