1) Mayor J.B. Lawrence Joins Blowing Rock Realty
As if he didn’t already have enough to do, Blowing Rock’s Mayor J.B. Lawrence recently earned his North Carolina Real Estate Broker’s license and joined the Blowing Rock Realty team headed by broker Sue Glenn. Although J.B. will be keeping his “day job” as City President for United Community Bank for the foreseeable future and his “other job” as major of Blowing Rock, he is looking forward to the future and sees opportunities to help people with their real estate needs directly and with the Blowing Rock Realty team. As a High Country native, J.B. comes to the real estate business with extensive knowledge of our area and a 28-year banking career that will be enormously helpful to his real estate clients. Blowing Rock is the area’s oldest established real estate company and has been building the community since 1924. Although many companies have taken confusing names that included the town name, Blowing Rock Realty, founded by Howard Holshouser in 1924, as the original. Sue Glenn has owned the company since late 1980. At the end of last year, Blowing Rock Realty movedto a new location at The Martin House Cottage at 1116-5 Main Street.
2) Men’s Connection Study Hosts Bobby Richardson
The Men’s Connection Bible Study of Blowing Rock cordially invites both men and women to be guests for a continental breakfast to meet and hear Bobby Richardson, New York Yankees star of the 50s and 60s speak on Tuesday, July 22 at 8:30 a.m. in the Evergreen Room at Chetola Resort. Please feel free to invite anyone you think would enjoy this special occasion. You do not need to confirm your presence. The meeting should end shortly after 10 a.m. This event is non-fundraising and non-political.
3) Temple of the High Country Presents An Evening with the Kruger Brothers Aug. 23
On Aug. 23, the Temple of the High Country presents an Evening with the Kruger Brothers at 7:30 p.m. at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at ASU. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $75 for prime seating, prime parking, post concert champagne and dessert party with The Kruger Brothers. 4) Grandfather Mountain Camera Clinic Returns Aug. 16-17
Amateur and professional photographers can now register for the Grandfather Mountain Camera Clinic, a two-day seminar that offers presentations from outstanding photojournalists and opportunities for participants to improve their skills. The clinic, set for Aug. 16-17, allows participants the rare prospect of photographing scenic Grandfather Mountain at dawn and dusk and chances to network with others interested in the craft. Admission to the event is free for working photojournalists and members of the N.C. Press Photographers Association. Admission for all others is $50 and includes a buffet dinner on Sunday. Online registration opened July 15 at Grandfather.com. Anyone wishing to secure a spot may purchase a $50 pass online; the charge will be refunded to those who show valid press credentials or an NCPPA membership card at check-in on Saturday. A discounted two-day admission ticket is available for $30 for guests of clinic participants who wish to enjoy the park but do not plan to attend the seminars. The ticket allows guests to come and go as they please Aug. 16 and 17. Guests may also purchase tickets for the Saturday buffet dinner for $10.

6) Walker Center Season Tickets Go on Sale Monday, July 21
The Walker Center Season Tickets for the 2014-15 season are now on sale to previous season ticket holders and will go on sale Monday, July 21, at noon to those who wish to become season ticket holders. Individual tickets to the 2014-15 shows go on sale Aug. 11. The Walker Center’s lineup includes:Ronnie Milsap, Mandy Barnett, Harman’s Hermits, Travis LeDoyt, Three Generations Acoustic Tour, Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Jazz Orchestra.
