1) Boone Chamber of Commerce Annual Fundraiser Raffle Currently Underway

The annual Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Fundraiser Raffle is now underway with more than $10,000 in potential prizes. Prizes for the raffle include hotel packages, ASU football packages, dinner and theatre packages, golf packages, attracting packages, party packages, local restaurant gift certificates, Westglow packages, healing and health packages. retail therapy packages, wine and beer packages and more. The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from this event to the Hunger and Health Coalition. Purchase tickets now by calling the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. 2) Recipient of the Dr. Gene Reese Dental Scholarship Announced

The Tarheel Dental Study Club comprised of dentists from Watauga, Ashe, Avery and Mitchell counties recently announced that Debin Warren is the recipient of the Dr. Gene Reese Dental Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship. Debin is attending the East Tennessee State University Dental Hygiene program. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lee Warren of Boone. The scholarship was established following the late Dr. Gene Reese’s retirement and to honor his long term service of dentistry in the area. Funds are awarded annually to support the dental auxiliary student’s education and anticipating they would potentially be employed in the above communities’ dental offices. Scholarship funds are managed by the North Carolina Community Foundation and are available to persons attending either dental assisting or dental hygiene programs. Local board members on the selection committee are Dr. Michael Mayhew, Claude Smith and Mary Louise Roberts. The scholarship is available to those persons from the counties represented by the membership of the Tarheel Dental Study Club and who have been accepted into an accredited dental assisting or dental hygiene program. 3) Downtown Community Festival Held July 20

The Howard Street Exchange will he held July 20 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Boone. The event is a downtown community festival and plein air paint off. Music for the event will include Kendra Warren, The Depressed Alligators, Cici and the Coronas, Ban Dam and Boom One Sound. Workshops will include bead making with Rashell and Thomas, massage and self care with Eli Peltz, swing dance with Charlie Myers and time banking with Michelle Dineen. There will also be craft vendors, food trucks, local beer and kids activities. 4) Making You Laugh on Habitat’s Behalf Held Aug. 12

“Making You Laugh on Habitat’s Behalf” featuring Jeanne Roberts will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at Lees-McRae College in the Hayes Auditorium. Cost for the show is $50. Award-winning speaker Jeanne Robertson is an expert in humor, whether regaling audiences with her experiences as a 6’2″ Miss Congeniality winner in the Miss America Pageant or outlining the steps toward developing a sense of humor.
