1) Caldwell Arts Council’s Art-in-Healing Gallery at Caldwell Memorial Hospital 3rd Quarter 2013 Exhibit to Feature Ingrid A. Erickson Cut Paper & Mixed Media Artwork
Caldwell Memorial Hospital’s Art-in-Healing Gallery will feature cut paper and mixed media artwork by Salisbury NC Artist Ingrid A. Erickson from July 1 through Sept. 27. The gallery is located inside the Mulberry Street entrance to Caldwell Memorial Hospital and is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
2) Elkland Art Center Liberty Day Parade Postponed
It is raining cats and dogs out there today… ant it is anticipated to be the same tomorrow. The Parade will take place on Saturday, July 6, same time and place. At the corner of 194 N and Railroad Grade Road in Todd. Meet at 10:30 a.m. to get dressed. Parade begins at 11. The Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds which support the parade will still end at 11:59 p.m. tonight. Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we do not reach our goal, no pledged funds are collected. It is incredibly encouraging to be supported by the community for which and by which this event is created. Any amount that you contribute really makes a difference. See you on Saturday!
3) Watauga Humane Society’s Bare Bones Boutique
A special brown bag sale on men’s and women’s summer clothes is on Friday and Saturday July 5 and 6 only from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. on both days. Stuff a bag and pay only $5.33. We have a big selection to choose from. Still plenty of time to wear all the cool summer clothes and make lots of dollars for the animals. Bare Bones Boutique is part of the Watauga Humane Society and is operated by a staff of volunteers. All the money goes directly to the care of the animals. 4) Ribbon Cutting and Open House
Join us on July 11 from 4-6 p.m. at the Appalachian Regional Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center’s ribbon cutting and open house. The location is 870 State Farm Road Suite 100 in Boone. For more info, call 828-386-BONE.
5) Concert at Watauga County Library
This Saturday, join local bluegrass band Creekside Grass for a free concert (weather permitting) at Watauga Library at 140 Queen Street in downtown Boone. Creekside Grass specializes in traditional, gospel and original bluegrass music. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Library Meeting Room. All are welcome!
6) Board Meeting
The Voluntary Farmland Preservation Advisory Board will hold its meeting on Monday, July 8 at 8 a.m. in the Watauga Soil and Water Office at 971 West King Street. The public is invited.
7) Lucille Miller Observatory
The Lucile Miller Observatory will be open for our monthly public observing on Friday, July 5, from 9 to 11 p.m. The Lucile Miller Observatory is located on the campus of Maiden Middle School (the old high school) on North C Avenue just west of downtown Maiden. This is a free event and all ages and interest levels are welcome. No reservations needed. We will be at the observatory rain or shine. In case of ad weather, an indoor program will be presented. Light refreshments will be available. Visitors are encouraged to bring their telescopes if they have questions on how to use them, or if the telescope needs adjustment. Weather permitting, we will observe Venus, Saturn and the summer sky.
8) Bethelview Valle Crucis United Methodist Charge Announce New Senior Pastor
Bathelview and Valle Crucis United Methodist Churches will welcome newly appointed Pastor Elaine Hall on Sunday, July 14. Hall, her husband Clint, and two sons, Martin and Philip, relocated to Boone from Springfield, VA. Rev. Hall earned her Bachelor of Science from Davidson College and Masters in Divinity from Yale University. The two churches look forward to years under Rev. Hall’s leadership and welcome you to worship with us on Sundays.
