1) Gadabouts Catering Partners with Best Western Lodge
Gadabouts Catering and the Best Western Lodge in Banner Elk are pleased to announce their business partnership. Gadabouts relocated to the North Carolina High Country in 2004 from Charlotte and has offered off-premise catering to weddings as well as social and corporate events. With their new business venture, they now have the ability to offer their fantastic food and professional service in an established hotel with banquet facilities. The meeting and banquet space at the Best Western encompasses 3,600 square feet and is suitable for all types of occasions. In addition, the restaurant will be open to the public for special events, the first one being on Sunday, May 11, for a Mother’s Day Buffet. Menu offerings will include Gadabouts famous shrimp and grits, roast prime rib of beef and chicken Florentine. The facility has full ABC permits and the bar will be open! All moms will get a locally-grown tulip to enjoy with their meal. Gadabouts will still offer full-service catering for off-premise events and has recently procured a mixed beverage off-premise catering permit. 3) Author Jeff Block Visits Watauga Library May 12
Join local author Jeff Block and his wife, Debbie, for a presentation about both autobiography and fictionalizing real life experiences, the responsibility of authors and a reading from the author’s two books. Copies of the books will be available for purchase. Jeff Block’s first book, Nine Years After: A Caretaker’s Story, is the autobiography by the husband of a brain cancer patient who has become his wife’s full time caregiver. The pathos and joys of an average American couple are exquisitely detailed and presented with humor, love and hope. His newest book, God Knows What: The Autobiography of Pope Bing the First is a fictional the genre busting story of Pope Bing the First who becomes the focal point of the world’s largest religion after his writing of The Book. By masterfully intertwining Bing’s life story with The Book author Jeff Block has not only created one of the most memorable characters in recent fiction but has given us all a blueprint for a happier and more peaceful world.
