Email Announcements We Are Receiving Today: See What’s Going On Around The Community

1) Tai Chi Classes at the Senior Center

Two 12-week sessions of Tai Chi (beginner and intermediate) will begin on Thursday, May 15 at the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center instructed by Tim Winecoff. The intermediate class will be held on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a 5:30-6:30 class for beginner students. The deadline for registration is 4:30 p.m. on the first day of class. Any age may join but priority will be given to persons aged 60 and older. The cost is $50 per person for either 12-week series. The Senior Center is located in the Human Services Building at 132 Poplar Grove Connector in Boone. Call the center at 828-265-8090 with any questions.

2) ASU Learn to Swim Program Offers Summer Sessions

Appalachian State University Recreation is offering the American Red Cross sponsored Learn to Swim courses. Participants can learn the basics of swimming or improve their existing swimming skills in a safe environment. All classes are taught by qualified and experienced instructors. Group lessons are offered for all skill levels and ages six months and up. Classes are small so that your child can receive individual attention when needed while still interacting with children of similar age and ability. Session 1 is June 2 through June 26 and session 2 is July 7 through July 31. Courses offered are infant/toddler swim, preschool swim, school age swim. Each session includes 8 classes, meeting twice a week in the ASU SRC Nanatorium.

3) Baha’i Devotional Meeting

There will be a Baha’i devotional meeting from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Stony Fork on Sunday, May 4. The theme of the meeting will be “Celebrating a Divine Springtime.” The meeting will celebrate the Baha’i Festival of Ridvan, the time when Baha’u’llah, the Prophet-Founder of the Baha’u faith proclaimed his mission April 1863.
