2) Free Energy Program
Energy bills got you down? Attend a free program sponsored by Appalachian Voices; a local nonprofit group dedicated to helping communities use less energy, save money and grow their local economy. During this free program, you will learn how to save money and make your home more energy efficient. Thursday, Jan. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Western Watauga Community Center. 3) No-Fee Voter ID Cars Available Beginning Jan. 2
In accordance with a new state law passed during the 2013 legislative session, the State of Noth Carolina will begin issuing no-fee voter identification cards on Jan. 2. Beginning in 2016, North Carolina will require voters to have a valid photo ID to cast a ballot when voting in person. A list of photo ID that will be acceptable for voting is available on the State Board of Elections’ website. No-fee ID cards are available for people who have no valid forms of photo ID. Applications for these ID cards can be made at any NC DMV drivers license office. Applicants will need to present documents that verify their age and identity. Applicants will also need to provide a valid Social Security number. NCDMV has posted the requirements to their website. Voter ID cards are mailed to applicants within 10 to 15 days following application.
4) Grief Support Group
A Monthly Adult Grief Support Group is being offered in Boone for people who have experienced the death of a loved one. The group will meet the first Thursday of each month at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church on 170 Councill Street from 6 pm until 7:30 pm. This is a supportive group exploring many grief related issues like typical reactions to loss, the grieving process, and strategies for coping with grief and loss in your own life.
