1) County Nights/Tom Dooley Play

Tickets are now on sale for the 13th season of Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend, produced by Bleu Moon Productions. Tickets may be purchased online at www.bluemoonproductions.com or by calling 336-838-4278 or they may be purchased at the gate on the night of each performance. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors with group rates available for groups of 10 or more upon request. July 12 is Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany Nights. All Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany County residents purchasing tickets at the gate may request a 1/2 price discount from the full $15 price for all members of their group by presenting their driver’s license. The show will be presented outdoors at the Forest’s Edge Amphitheater off of NC 421 North  in historic Fort Hamby Park, 1534 South Recreation Road in Wilkesboro. Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend is produced through a partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of the Lake. Performances begin at 8:30 p.m. each evening and that gate begins selling tickets and accepting advance tickets at 7 p.m. Seats are not assignmed, but staff will reserve seats by phone for groups of 10 or more upon request. The show opens on Friday, July 5, and show dates are July 5,6,11,12,13,18,19,20,25,26 and 27. All performances are at 8:30 p.m. Bleu Moon Productions will have soft drinks, chips, popcorn and candy for sale beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

2) Free Concert at Watauga County Library This Saturday, June 22

On Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. there will be a free concert by the King Bees Duo of Todd, NC. From the capitols of Europe to mississippi juke joints to the Lincoln Center in New York City, these High Country favorites have brought their sizzling Southern Blues to audiences near and far. Join local favorites Rob Baskerville and Penny Zamagni for a rocking good time, featuring the history of the blues and the experience of live performance. Rain or shine, outside, weather permitting, or in the Meeting Rom otherwise. Located at 140Queen Street in Boone. 

3) Watauga County Humane Society 32nd Annual Rummage Sale

The 32 Annual Watauga Humane Society Rummage Sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22 at the National Guard Armory just off State Farm Road at the swim complex in Boone. The BIG two-day sale is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed beginning Monday, June 17. If you would like to volunteer at the rummage sale, contact Dee Dundon at 828-264-9116. Please Please drop your donations at the back entrance to the Armory between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. 

4) Blue Ridge Parkway Special Ranger Program

On Saturday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Special Ranger Program at the Linville Falls Campground Amphitheater at Milepost 316. The program will be Wilderness Skills: From Lost to Found with the Linville Central Rescue K-9 Team. We think that the worst will never happen, but if it does, then what? Come to learn how to prepare for the possibility of getting lost in the woods, and what steps search and rescue groups will be taking to find you. This will include a demonstration by the search dogs of the Linville Central Rescue K-9 team. It will last about 45 minutes. 

5) Board Meeting

The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board will hold its regular board meting on Wednesday, June 26 at 8 a.m. in the district office at 971 West King Street. The public is invited to attend. 

6) Liberty Parade 2013: Fan Your Flames

Volunteers are hard at work to make this year’s parade. Join us! Liberty Parade June 24 – 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Todd. Artist work days for big kids are every Friday in June from 1-4 p.m. in Todd at the Old Elkland School. Public workshops for all kids are every Saturday in June 1-4 p.m. in Todd at the Old Bank Building beside the Mercantile. Call 336-877-5016 for more information. Support the parade by pledging on Kickstarter. Rewards are part of the fun, so please let us shower you with gifts by making a pledge today. 

7) CPR/First Aid Certification Class

On Wednesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Buckeye Recreation Center is offering a full day CPR and First Aid Training for the Town of Beech Mountain. If you are interested in learning these life-saving techniques and getting certified, please contact the Buckeye Recreation Center at 828-387-3003. Space is limited for this class. 

8) Watauga County Republican Party Executive Committee Meeting

There will be a Watauga County Republican Party Executive Committee meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at the former New River Showcase and Design Center, 2815 NC 105 in Boone.
