1) Watauga Soil and Water Meeting

The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board will hold its regular board meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 8 a.m. in the district office at 971 West King Street. The public is invited to attend. 

2) Holiday Market Seeks Vendors

The Boone Service League will hold its annual Holiday Market on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 7:30-11 a.m. at Watauga High School in conjunction with the Watauga Education Foundation’s Flapjack Flip. Interested vendors are welcome to apply for a space or to ask questions by emailing Stephanie Allen at sallen628@hotmail.com no later than Nov. 15. The charge for vendors is $60. Vendor spaces are subject to availability and uniqueness of product. The Boone Service League is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for emergency needs, projects, scholarships and charities throughout the High Country. 3) Concerto-aria Finals Recital Held Nov. 17

Students from the Hayes School of Music will perform in the school’s concerto-aria competition finals Sunday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center at Appalachian State University. Admission is free. Violinist Alexander Travers will perform the first movement of “Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22” by Henryk Wieniawski. Clarinetist Oran Dickens will perform “Introduction, Theme, and Variations” by Gioacchino Rossini. Pianist Colin Fleisher will perform the first movement from “Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, K. 491” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Tenor Chris Plaas will perform “Frisch zum Kampfe!” from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Die Engführung aus dem Serail” and “Je crois entendre encore” from Georges Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de Perles.” Violinist Alice Silba will perform the first movement of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64.”  Flutist Erica Spear will perform “Fantasie Brilliante sur Carmen” by François Borne. Pianist Paul Cranfill will perform “Totentanz, S. 525” by Franz Liszt.

4) Caldwell Arts Council Announces “Taste of Christmas” Fundraiser

Enjoy the elegance of Christmas at “A Taste of Christmas: Saturday, Dec. 7, from 7-9 p.m. at the Irish Rose Bed & Breakfast, benefitting the Caldwell Arts Council. Attendance by reservation only and space is limited. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance. 5) Grand Opening of Freedom Farm Ministries Thrift Store

6) Blue Heaven Resort and Spa Business Afterhours Holiday Event and Awards Celebration

This event will take place Nov. 21 at the location on Heavenly Mountain. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the yummy holiday warmth of heavenly pies and cakes, warm apple cider and more. There will be free drawings for a free night stay at the resort and spa, free spa services and free relaxation session with a personal trainer. Please RSVP to brandydouglass@gmail.com. 

7) Old World Galleries Grand Opening 

Old World Galleries was founded in 1979 with a few hundred dollars from Mom and Dad and their good wishes. The owners are trained in jewelry repair, design and evaluation. They enjoy helping clients find the best value in the jewelry industry. The grand opening will take place Friday, Nov. 22 from 2-5 p.m. Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson and Blowing Rock Mayor J.B. Lawrence will be cutting the ribbon at 2 p.m. An open house will be hosted from 2-5:30 p.m. 

8) Save the Date – Flap Jack Flip

Mark your calendars because the Watauga Education Foundation is inviting you to breakfast. The annual Flap Jack Flip will take place from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on Dec. 7 at the Watauga High School. Featuring ingredients from local farmers and endorsed by Local First, the Watauga Education Foundation will be serving pancakes, sausage and country ham along with our tremendously popular blueberry syrup. The music teachers and students from throughout the county will play holiday music while you enjoy breakfast, making this a truly enjoyable morning for the whole family. The Watauga Education Foundation offers grants and scholarships to students and teachers of the Watauga Public School System that promote every student to achieve his or her highest potential. Come join us!

9) Punt, Pass and Kick at Buckeye Recreation Center

Football season is in full swing! Come out and show your football skills for our annual Punt, Pass and Kick Contest. Awards will be given out for best in each category and age group. So some out Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. and unleash your inner all-star at this great All-American event. The entry fee is $5 per person and all proceeds go to benefit Beech Mountain Community projects. 

10) Downtown Boone Christmas Parade

The Downtown Boone Development Association and the Town of Boone are pleased to announce the annual Downtown Boone Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 7. Step off will be at 11 a.m. A special appearance of Santa Claus will delight the whole family. Come and share in our Downtown Holiday Tradition.
