1) Free Try-It Classes for Infants and Preschoolers at The Children’s Playhouse Next Week

Looking to instill a love of music in your baby or preschooler? the Children’s Playhouse, the High Country’s only nonprofit children’s museum, is now enrolling for high quality affordable music classes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The first six week session begins on Sept. 2 but families are invited to attend Try It Free classes on Aug. 26 and 27 at 9:30 a.m. at The Children’s Playhouse located at 400 Tracy Circle in Boone. All classes are taught by Laura Donovan, a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and an experienced preschool teacher. Children and caregivers will explore music through singing, playing rhythm instruments, moving to music and more. New parents particularly enjoy learning nursery rhymes and finger plays that they can use at home to ease transitions and aid learning. Parents can sign up online or by calling The Children’s Playhouse at 828-263-0011. A nonprofit children’s museum founded in 2002, The Children’s Playhouse provides an enriching play environment for children from birth to age eight while at the same time offering parents and caregivers friendly support in the important job of raising children. It is located at 400 Tracy Circle near downtown Boone. Daily admission is $5 per person. A one year membership is $125 and includes admission to The Playhouse and more than 150 children’s museums nationwide. Scholarship memberships are available for families that meet income guidelines. 2) Swing Music Held Monday Evenings in Downtown Boone

Monday evenings, enjoy Swing Set swing music at the warehouse across from Char in downtown Boone from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Swing dance lessons are held at 5:30 p.m. On Aug. 22, the Artfull Pallette at the Harvest House, sponsored by the Watauga County Arts Council, will hold a multi musical event featuring the Swing Set at 8:30 p.m.

3) An Evening with the Kruger Brothers Held Aug. 23 at ASU

The Temple of the High Country is having a musical fundraising event, “An Evening with the Kruger Brothers” on Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. General admission is $25, and a $75 ticket provides prime seating, prime parking, post-concert champagne and dessert party with the Kruger Brothers. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the Box office at the Schaefer Center at ASU. 4) Shining Seas Revival held Friday, Sept. 12

A performance revival of The Shining Seas! will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Boone. The performance will feature many puppets from the original show plus a host of new water creatures including a dashing octopus, a sinister angler fish and undulating sea centipedes. The show will be performed by the core troop of puppeteers: Cindy Tate, Kathy Ford, Marcia Alayon, Tori Cox, Veronica Toub, Zan Valliant and Alistair Burke. The troop is thrilled to be accompanied by the formidable sounds of local musicians Harold McKinney, Ted Gulick and Rob Falvo. Twenty percet of the ticket sales will benefit Appalachian Voices, a great local organization raising awareness around nature issues and particularly in September regarding water concerns. Tickets will be sold at the door so get there early, previous shows have sold out. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
