1) An Homage to Stillness Held Aug. 15-16

Your friends at Art & Artifacts and Blowing Rock Gallery of Homes and Land invite you to drop by before “Music on the Lawn” Friday afternoon for the exhibit preview or stop by on Saturday and meet artists Elaine Arnold and Lynne Marshall. On Saturday, we will also be featuring Blue Murrow’s blues, jazz and Americana music. So stop by, enjoy a wonderful exhibit, live music and have some refreshments. The preview will be held Friday, Aug. 15 from 3-6 p.m. and the opening will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 from 3-6 p.m. in conjunction with art in the park. ELaine Arnold, a sculptor, describes her creative work as “narrating stories of deeper values of consciousness: magical, sacred, aspects of inner life.” All of her sculptures and drawings are multi-layered symbolic expressions of inner truth, sometimes delightfully playful and whimsical, sometimes tenderly spiritual, but always deeply touching and evocative of inner silence. In her portraits, Lynne Marshall captures a quality of inner wakefulness, alertness and luminosity in the subject – whether in hcarcoal, pencil or watercolor. Accurate likeness merges with timelessness and this quality can also be seen in the landscapes and tree-paintings which are contemplative portraits of specific natural “characters.”
