1) Video Stream of Program on Advancing Civil Rights for the LGBT Community Shown Jan. 19

The Appalachian State University and Boone communities are invited to a live streaming of a panel discussion on advancing civil rights for the LGBT community. The program “Moving Forward Together: A Panel Discussion on Civil Rights and the LGBT Community” with guest speaker Suze Orman will be streamed Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons. Gus Peña, director of the Office of Multicultural Student Development at Appalachian, will convene the event and facilitate a discussion at the conclusion of the event.  Admission is free. In addition, the video stream can be watched at http://www.tbeboca.org/live-streaming-videoCosponsored by The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida, the event will feature remarks by Abraham H. 2) Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Announces Business After Hours 2015 Dates

Business After Hours is typically the third Thursday of the month from 5-7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The dates are as follows:

3) Baha’i Devotional Meeting Held Jan. 18

There will be a Baha’i devotional meeting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 283 Westbrook Dr. in Boone to mark the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The theme of the meeting will be “One Human Race, One Human Family.” All are welcome. For more information and directions call 264-5602.

Evoking the charm of a bygone era, Maureen is a vocalist influenced by some of the greatest singers: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She covers everything from jazz and blues to contemporary popular music and show tunes. Maureen will be performing accompanied by Andy Page (guitar) and Nathan Hefner (piano).
