1) J.E. Broyhill Civic Center Presents David Holt and the Lighting Bolts

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s J.E. Broyhill Civic Center will present David Holt and the Lightning Bolts on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. David Holt and the Lightning Bolts delivers old-time music with a new time jolt. With more than 10 different instruments including banjo, fiddle, bottleneck blues guitar, mouth bow and even a paper bag, the Lightning Bolts present an entertaining and dynamic show filled with humor, stories and music. Four-time Grammy winner David Holt has assembled a group of stellar musicians and entertainers: Laura Boosinger, Josh Goforth, Jeff Hersk and Byron Hedgepeth who bring to life the joy and spirit of mountain music. Every concert sizzles with music learned directly from musical greats like Doc Watson, Tommy Jarrell, Grandpa Jones, Roy Acuff and the oldest person in the world, 123-year-old Susie Brunson. David Holt and the Lightning Bolts is a concert band that all ages will enjoy. Their new album was recently No. 1 on the Roots Music Charts. The wide diversity of material, styles and instruments gives the Lightning Bolts the spark that keeps their music fresh, fun and fired up. 2) Senior Center Yoga Registration Extended

Registration for the Harrill Senior Center Yoga class have been extended through Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. The 12-week class series will begin on Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Cost is $74 for the 12-week series, taught by Akal Dev Sharonne who has been teaching yoga since the 1970s. Priority will be given to persons age 60 and older if class registration exceeds classroom capacity. 3) Old-Time Dance and an Evening at the Museum at BRAHM Held Jan. 16

Come in out of the cold and shake a leg with the fun and camaraderie of old-time dance – circles, squares and lines – on Jan. 16 from 7-9 p.m. at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum. Absolutely no experience is necessary and people of all ages are welcome. Dance instructions will be given by experienced caller John Turner and live old-time music will be provided by the Laurel Creek Stringband.
