1) Opening Reception for Student Art Exhibit to be Held Nov. 21 in King-Shivell Gallery

Lees-McRae’s King-Shivell Gallery is proud to host a selection of student artwork titled “Peer to Peer.” The exhibit will be on display through December 11. The opening reception is scheduled for this Friday, November 21, from 6 – 7 p.m. in King-Shivell Gallery. This exhibit is free and open to the public. “Peer to Peer” is focused on allowing students to represent their respective disciplines and expertise in art. Featuring work from students in various academic programs, the exhibit will include a variety of mediums including painting, mixed media, collage, photography, drawing and digital. “This show is important to not only me but this school and community because art is a creative outlet and a form of higher thinking,” said Vincent Preteroti, a Lees-McRae student whose art is showcased in the exhibit. “Without the exercise of both sides of the brain brought through art, critical thinking and emotional control would be nearly impossible. Art is a process that has survived history because of its impact and ability to transcend multiple levels of thinking and understanding.” The Communication Arts and Design program at Lees-McRae offers three concentrations, one of which is Art and Design. This concentration is designed for students interested in fine art techniques and 2-D design. Coursework within this concentration explores studio art and art history, which makes viewing peer work a perfect addition to the work explored in the classroom. For more information about King-Shivell Gallery, please contact Jason Sabbides at sabbidesj@lmc.edu. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Lees-McRae College is a private, four-year college offering diverse baccalaureate degrees, strong athletic programs and outstanding faculty.
