Nashville’s Electro-Indie Duo CHERUB Sells Out at Legends for a Third Consecutive Year

By Cramer Lewis

Cherub’s yearly visit to Boone has become a welcomed tradition; so much so that another yearly tradition accompanies their return: selling out at Legends.

The electro-indie music duo will dish out another funky dose of its high energy electro fusion to a sold out Legends crowd on Wednesday, and tickets to the show have now been sold out for the third consecutive year.

Cherub’s exciting use of funky sparse guitar riffs and synthy electronic beats combine with effect drenched vocal hooks to hypnotize and energize listeners, who cannot fight the sudden urge to dance or sing along.cherubuse

Boone has long been under the spell of Cherub’s fast-paced space pop, and the young duo out of Nashville won over the eclectic hearts of Boonies from their very first appearance.

“They came as a support act for Grammatic, and everybody liked them a lot, so we brought them back on their own and from then on we’ve had packed houses every time,” said Randy Kelly, club shows advisor for the Appalachian Popular Programming Society. “This will be the third sell out.”

Cherub, composed of Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber, has developed a somewhat legendary mythos in Boone, a town that was on the cutting edge of the group’s now large and growing commercial success.

Cherub’s best known single “Doses and Mimosas” began charting in 2014; but in 2012, “Doses and Mimosas” was blasting out of every other passing car on U.S. Highway 321 in the High Country. The duo’s legend has grown as the group has eagerly received the support of Boone fans. The two are even known to frequent after parties around town following their shows here.

This year’s show has been sold out now for two weeks on the heels of Cherub’s newly released single, “Bleed Gold Piss Excellence,” which will be the title track of their upcoming album. The group will be releasing their new full length album this fall to follow up their 2014 release, Year of the Caprese.

So far, they’ve put out two singles from the new album: “Bleed Gold Piss Excellence,” and more recently “Sensation.” The new album is set to release on Oct. 14.

Veteran attendees know to expect an action packed night of rowdiness and dancing as Boone welcomes back one of its favorite artists. First timers should look forward to adding their energy to the electro-pop mayhem.
