The Watauga Education Foundation has been working since 1989 to provide support to the students and teachers of the outstanding Watauga County Schools system. From books to math manipulatives and from musical instruments to greenhouse initiatives, the WEF board grants classroom teachers the money to cover innovative educational ideas and lesson plans.
With a focus on programs that will directly affect the students and influence quality education, they fund not only classroom projects but also educational opportunities for teachers through the Price-Deverick scholarship.
Each December, the Watauga Education Foundation holds a fundraiser that will fill your art and your stomach. The annual Flapjack Flip is Saturday, Dec. 5 and those of you who have had their pancakes in the past will know that it’s an event you don’t want to miss.
This year’s menu includes: sausage from North Fork Farms, Goodnight Brothers country ham, and homemade blueberry syrup. Yes, it’s really homemade! Sunny Rock is coming through by donating products to make the pancakes delicious.
Charles Crabbe, the Flapjack Flip Committee chair for WEF, shares with enthusiasm, “Teachers and students in Watauga County Schools are the motivation because they benefit directly from the morning of pancakes – through the Watauga Education Foundation.”
The mission of the WEF is to support teachers and students in the Watauga County Public School System by funding classroom grants and scholarships for teachers and students. The money raised by the Flapjack Flip goes back into classrooms by funding projects that fall outside state and local budgets.
Lots of other fun is happening during the Flapjack Flip as well. There will be Themed Raffle Packages with lots of great items in each package. Raffle tickets are available online at www.wefonlinegiving.wix.com/donate
Our own Watauga High School students will send us into the holidays with live music, and the Boone Service League will host their holiday market during the Flapjack Flip. The WEF makes every effort to support our local farms and businesses as they plan the event and make those wonderful pancakes. The most important man in the world – the one in the red suit – will be there so plan to bring the children and their lists! You can even purchase a picture with Santa if you’d like.
Want to join the WEF for a morning of food, a holiday market and holiday music??? Tickets are only $6 in advance or $8 at the door. All proceeds go to fund classroom support in the Watauga County Schools.
The WEF is a non-profit organization focused on enriching local education. Flap Jack Flip 2015 will be Saturday, Dec. 5 from 7:30 until 11 a.m. at the Watauga High School. Tickets are available in advance for $6 at http://wefonlinegiving.wix.com/donate or at the door for $8 each.
