Drug Arrests Dominate Weekly Brief From Avery Sheriff’s Office, Elk Park Trailer Theft Under Investigation

Aug. 12, 2013. Here is a weekly arrest brief from the Avery County Sheriff’s Office: 

On Aug. 5 officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Keisha Cook of Powdermill Creek Road on two outstanding felony probation violations and a felony drug charge.  Cook met the officers at the Sheriff’s Office to turn herself in.

On Aug. 7 officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Esau Abundio of Linville on possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia charges after a traffic stop just outside the town of Newland near Smokey Straight. A glass pipe and methamphetamine residue were located inside a bag in the front of the vehicle driven by Abundio. 

Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office reported a stolen concession trailer from the Elk Park area of Avery County on Aug. 7.  The reported value of the trailer is over $11,000.  Investigators with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office were assisted in locating the stolen trailer by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office on the evening of August 09th.  No arrests have been made in the theft but leads have been developed as a result of the recovery of the trailer and future arrests are possible.

Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old Melissa Dellinger of a Crossnore address on the evening of Aug. 7.  Officers made a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Dellinger after observing traffic violations.  Officers searched the vehicle driven by Dellinger and located methamphetamine and marijuana.  A seventeen-year-old male was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Dellinger and was also arrested on drug charges.  Dellinger was placed on a $20,000 bond.

Officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44 year old Penny Carter of Elizbethton Tennessee on Aug. 8 after a traffic stop in the Elk Park Community.  During a search of the vehicle driven by Carter officers located a pipe containing a residue. The residue tested positive for Cocaine and Carter was arrested and placed in the Avery County Jail.

On Aug. 10 officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop on Blevins Creek Rd. Forty-eight-year old Roy Roberts of Roan Mountain was the driver of the vehicle.  Roberts had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Watauga County.  A Schedule II drug and marijuana were located during a search of Roberts and the vehicle he was driving.  Additional marijuana was located on his person when he was checked into the Avery County Jail.  Roberts was placed under a $10,000 bond.
