Dr. Darrell Kruger Named Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at Appalachian

Following a national search, Dr. Darrell P. Kruger has been named provost and executive vice chancellor at Appalachian State University. Kruger comes to Appalachian from the University of New Orleans, where he is dean of the College of Education and Human Development.

Kruger will begin his tenure at Appalachian on July 1.

“Dr. Kruger brings a wealth of experience and expertise based in an approach of service and collegiality to support the work of our dedicated faculty, students and staff in meeting our academic mission,” said Chancellor Sheri N. Everts.  “During the search process, it was clear that he was prepared to be both colleague and advocate as our university joins together to navigate the opportunities ahead of us. I commend the search committee for their diligence and service throughout the entire search process.”

Kruger holds a doctorate in geography from Louisiana State University. In addition to the University of New Orleans, he has held administrative and faculty posts at Illinois State University and been on the faculty at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana State University.

“I look forward to joining the Appalachian community,” Kruger said. “I have been thoroughly impressed and energized by what I have learned about this amazing university. It became very clear when I visited campus that should I be selected Appalachian would be the place where I could join an academic community in working toward common goals.”
