The egg-citement is palpable.
Downtown Boone’s annual Easter Eggstravaganza returns Saturday, March 24, with baskets of fun for kids of all ages.
Taking place at the Watauga County Public Library (140 Queen St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the celebration will include Easter egg hunts, a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, fun-filled science eggs-periments and more.
“I think it’s going to be a really fun family-friendly activity for everyone to come out and enjoy, and we’re hoping for great weather,” said Brittney Clark, downtown development coordinator for the Downtown Boone Development Association, which organizes the annual event. While previous Eggstravaganzas have taken place at the Jones House Community Center, the location changed this year due to a scheduling conflict, Clark said.
The celebration starts at 10 a.m., with children’s activities and programming at the library, presented by The Children’s Council of Watauga County, The Children’s Playhouse and the Friends of the Watauga County Public Library.
At 10:15 a.m., the first Easter egg hunt of the day will commence for kids ages 4 to 7, with prizes including candy and toys.
At 10:30 a.m., the Eggstravaganza will host an egg hunt for children ages 0 to 3, with a special area designated for the youngest of hunters who haven’t yet learned to walk.
Since those two activities could be considered over easy, Eggstravaganza organizers are introducing a scavenger hunt to get the older kids (ages 8 to 12) scrambling.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., scavenger hungers can visit the library’s youth resource desk to pick up a clue card, which will lead them to participating downtown merchants to collect eggs and stamps. Adult supervision is required, Clark noted.
Once completed, participants may drop their cards in the night deposit box at Boone Town Hall (567 W. King St.). Winners will be contacted the following Monday, March 26, with prizes from a variety of downtown businesses, including gift cards.
“The scavenger hunt will be will be a lot of fun,” Clark said. “It’s going to be a bit of a challenge, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end!”
The event will be held regardless of weather, be it rainy, cloudy or sunny side up. For more information, call the Downtown Boone Development Association at (828) 268-6283, or visit https://downtownboonenc.com/events/eggstravaganza/.
