Dec. 2, 2014. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The High Country has already seen a good bit of snow so far and the weather has that familiar nip in the air, but for many High Country residents and visitors, it isn’t really Christmastime until Santa is spotted on King Street!
The annual Downtown Boone Christmas Parade will bring Santa Claus, floats, performances and more to King Street to help kick off the most merry of seasons.
The parade will hold its procession down the length of King Street, the center of downtown Boone, starting at 11 a.m. The spectacle will be complete with decorated floats, local celebrities, dance numbers, live music and much more following this year’s theme – Christmas and Snow!
The parade will follow a route from Horn in the West, down King Street west to the Poplar Grove Extension. No parking is allowed in the Horn in the West parking lot while the parade is being staged.
The downtown Boone Development Association encourages carpooling for this event, and suggests that attendees park at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens parking area and near the Jaycee’s Park. No parking is allowed at the nearby Hampton’s Funeral Service. Horn in the West Drive and Horn Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning three hours prior to the parade.
Every year, hundreds of people line the streets to see the long procession head down King Street. And don’t forget to head over to the Watauga County Public Library on Queen Street for the after-party, which will include even more fun for the whole family. After the parade rings in the holiday season in Boone with style, enjoy the Christmas Reception!
Come enjoy homemade cookies, hot chocolate and apple juice, along with craft tables set up just for kids. Then, head over to the Jones House Cultural and Community Center for hot cider and cookies.
Come and join in on this fantastic Christmas tradition in the High Country and head out to the Boone Christmas Parade on Saturday with family in tow for a fantastic day to remember.
