Annual Downtown Boone Christmas Parade Takes Place Tomorrow at 11 a.m. Prior to ASU Football Game

By Paul T. Choate

Nov. 30, 2012. Put on by the Downtown Boone Development Association, the Boone Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, Dec. 1. Experience small town America at its finest with a procession down King Street, complete with decorated floats, local celebrities, dance troupes, music and more. There is even going to be a special appearance by Santa Claus himself.

The parade will follow a route from Horn in the West, down King Street west to Poplar Grove Extension. No parking is allowed in the Horn in the West parking lot while the parade is being staged. As for parking for the parade itself, parking will be available at both the Queen Street and Town Hall lots, according to Downtown Boone Development Coordinator Pilar Fotta.

The parade takes place on a big day for Boone, with the Appalachian State Mountaineers football team playing their first playoff game at Kidd Brewer Stadium at 2 p.m.

“We’re hoping the game is going to compliment all the activities downtown on Saturday,” Fotta said.

According to Fotta, the parade has had a very large number of applicants and she expects a long procession. The parade will even have some ASU flare, with cheerleaders, the dance team and Yosef himself participating in the procession.

“We’re really excited that everyone is working together,” Fotta said. “We’re excited about ASU’s participation and the community’s participation.”

During the parade, those in vehicles are being encouraged to all tune their radios to FM 102.3, which will be playing Christmas music throughout the parade. The Jones House will also be playing Christmas music on their loudspeakers outside.

The parade procession begins at 11 a.m.
