Help the Women’s Fund ‘Pack the Pantry,’ Donate Non-Perishable Food Items by Dec. 21

Thousands of children in the High Country rely on school for at least one meal a day. Winter school holidays and snow days put a strain on many families and the food pantries that see this need firsthand.

The Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge urges the High Country community to be generous with our neighbors at this time of year to alleviate child hunger during the winter season. The organization is hosting a food drive called “Pack the Pantry” from December 5-21. The food drive van will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside of the Yadkin Bank at 2111 Blowing Rock Road in Boone.womensfund

Good Samaritans can pack the van with non-perishable goods such as canned fish or meat, canned soups, dried fruit, jarred peanut or almond butter, jarred baby food and formula, granola bars, juice boxes, nuts and green tea. Home-canned goods cannot be donated.

Collected items will be distributed to families in Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties by the Hospitality House, Hunger and Health Coalition, Ashe Sharing Center, and Feeding Avery Families.
