Oct. 9, 2014. Oktoberfest is back at Sugar Mountain Resort, and this year is expected to be ever better than ever! On Oct. 11-12, the sights, sounds and flavors of Bavaria will abound as hundreds of attendees flock 5,300 feet up the mountain to enjoy one of the most highly-anticipated annual festivals of the year.

Enjoy weekend Oktoberfest activities from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day of the festival and be sure to bring the kids and the grandparents because the festival is for the whole family. Admission, parking and shuttle services are free. Rain or shine or show, the festival will go on!

The festival includes food, live music, beverages and fun for all ages.

The food options this year will include traditional Bavarian cuisine like Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Sauerkraut, strudel and pretzels. If those options aren’t to your taste, plenty of American-style foods will be available including hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, kettle corn, funnel cake, candy apples and other festive fall favorites.

To wash down all of those yummy eats, Spaten beer will also be available. It’s the true Bavarian ethnic beverage that is the symbol of the celebration “Oktoberfest!” And for the youngsters and those who wish to enjoy a less spirited beverage, non-alcoholic drinks will be available as well.

The musical atmosphere will be set by the Harbour Town Fest Band, as well as a special performance by the Valle Crucis Middle School Band. Guests will also enjoy the annual Oom Pah Band, yodeling, acordions, Alpenhorns and dancing!

For the shopping lovers, an assortment of artisans, craftspeople and food vendors will open their booths at 10 a.m. each day selling wares such as pottery, ceramics and jewelry, doggie items and fun food on the back lawn of the venue.

For the kids, a children’s activity area located in the Ski School Play Yard will be available. The children’s area includes bounce and play stations, hay rides, flex flying and a chance to meet Sugar Bear and Sweetie Bear. Face painting, cotton candy, popcorn and drinks will also be available in the children’s activity area.

Enjoy some of the best views of the High Country’s beautiful fall foliage from the mile and a half long scenic chairlift ride to Sugar’s 5,300 foot peak. Tickets can be purchased at the event for $12 for a one-time ride or $25 for a day pass. Children under 4 ride free with a paying adult.

“People are welcome to bring their pets, but they have to be leashed and they can’t come up on the deck,” said Kim Jochl, vice president of Sugar Mountain Resort.

“We will have our hay couches out that we had for Sugar Brew and we are going to add the corn hole games in the kids area,” she said.

With all of this autumn in the air, don’t forget that the winter season is on its way! Shop for the upcoming fall and winter seasons at Sugar Mountain Resort’s Sports and Gift Shop located on the first level of the main lodge building. The Ski Shop will offer 30 percent off of all 2014 and older winter apparel and footwear plus all Spyder Sample items will be 50-70 percent off. Sale prices are available only during the two-day Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Some merchandise exclusions do apply. New 2015 winter merchandise will be available at regular retail. Commemorative Oktoberfest and souvenir items can be purchased in the Sports Shop or outside, under the tent on the main celebration deck.
