A Dollar General is coming to Foscoe.
The Watauga County Board of Adjustment has issued a Conditional Use Permit for a Dollar General in between the Foscoe Pharmacy and Country Retreat Family Billiards, according to Watauga County Planning Director Joe Furman, who announced the plans at a High Country Home Builders Association meeting on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, Furman said he doesn’t know when construction will start as no building permit has been filed yet. Furman added that another Dollar General will likely be built in the county, although he couldn’t yet provide any specific information on that development.
Earlier this year a Dollar General spokesperson told the Watauga Democrat that it was mulling a possible location in Meat Camp off of N.C. 194 and a decision on that location is not expected to come down until February 2017.
Over the past few years, it seems like a new Dollar General pops up every few months across the High Country.
There is now a Dollar General located in Boone, Vilas, Zionville, Deep Gap, Banner Elk, two in Newland, Elk Park, West Jefferson and Jefferson.
Earlier this year, Dollar General told investors that it plans to open 1,900 stores in 2016 and 2017, which would bring the total number of Dollar Generals in the U.S. to about 15,000, according to Fortune.com.
