Sept. 26, 2012. The Todd Community Preservation Organization will host a Doc Watson Tribute Concert featuring the Kruger Brothers on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Walter and Anne Cook Park.

For the last decade Watson, who lived just down the road in Deep Gap, generously performed in Todd to the delight of neighbors, friends and admirers.

Proceeds from his annual August performance enabled the tradition of live traditional mountain music to continue in Todd. With Watson’s passing this summer, the Todd Community Preservation Organization sought out some of his closest musical friends to put together a tribute concert in his honor.

Wayne Henderson

Charles Welch of Boone, who joined Watson on the Todd stage for every concert over the last decade, will join the Sept. 29 performance. The concert will also feature Wayne Henderson, one of the southern Appalachian’s best known musicians and an official Treasure of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Tickets for the Doc Watson Tribute concert are now on sale and can be purchased at participating retail outlets throughout the High Country for $10, online with credit card for $12, or at the gate on the day of the concert for $15.

As with Doc’s past performances, the proceeds from this special Watson tribute concert will go toward keeping music alive in Todd.

Children 12 and under are admitted free. The concert will go on rain or shine. No refunds will be issued. For more information, call 336-877-5401 or click to www.toddnc.org.
