July 4, 2013. Despite the rainy weather on Thursday, throngs of people lined King Street for the Fourth of July parade, presented by the Town of Boone and Downtown Boone Development Association.

From classic cars, the old-man favorite, to the sights and sounds of the fire trucks and ambulances, the kid favorites, numerous vehicles strolled down main street during the parade. Veterans, firefighters and police officers received a nice applause while proceeding down King Street.

Grand Marshalls of the parade were Robert and Agnes Shipley. Mr. Shipley. Mr. Shipley is an inductee into the Western
North Carolina Agriculture Hall of Fame and a retired agriculture teacher from Cove Creek School. Mrs. Shipley is also an active member in the area’s agricultural community.
