On Nov. 19, 2015, Randall Martin Davis, 60, was sentenced for felony habitual driving while impaired. After a three-day trial, Mr. Davis plead guilty as charged before the jury began deliberations.
A Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped Mr. Davis on December 28, 2014, for faulty driving on U.S. Highway 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock at approximately 11:00 a.m. The deputy determined Mr. Davis was impaired and had an alcohol concentration above the legal limit. In the last five years, Mr. Davis has been convicted of four other impaired driving offenses.
The Honorable R. Gregory Horne, Superior Court Judge, sentenced Davis to 13-25 months in prison.
“The District Attorney’s office remains committed to working to keep our roads safe from impaired drivers,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement. “Habitual offenders like Mr. Davis pose a clear and present danger to our community. This case should send a message that drinking and driving will not be tolerated. I would like to thank Assistant District Attorney Matt Rupp for his work on this case. I would also like to thank the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts in bringing Mr. Davis to justice.”
