DAILY TUNES: The Outdoor Music Scene The Jones House’s Friday Night Concerts on the Lawn, this Friday: Dave Brewer’s Foscoe Four and Dead of Summer

Daily Tunes will be bringing you live music performances in the High Country area for every day of the week. Get out there and enjoy the cool breezes and relaxing music of summer before it’s over!

In bustling downtown Boone, the Jones House hosts its Concerts on the Lawn. On Friday nights, patrons climb the smooth stone stairs, and stretch out on their blankets on the grass, surrounded on all sides by leafy green trees.

The musicians begin to play from the wide porch of the Jones House, and the wonderful sounds can be heard all the way down the street. If you arrive late enough, the big beautiful white house is lit up so enchantingly that for a second you forget that downtown is literally right next to you.

The location of the Jones House in downtown Boone means there’s tons of places to explore before the concert, including the Mast General Store, Foggy Pines Books, and—if you’re feeling a little indulgent—King Street Creamery.

Pilar Fotta of the Jones House describes that, “There are several really wonderful restaurants, obviously just within a few steps of the Jones House. Most of them will do take out, so we suggest that if people want to eat while they’re here, that they go there. Or, a lot of people go and eat after the concerts are over.”

This Friday at 5 p.m., Dave Brewer’s Foscoe Four and Dead of Summer will perform. Dave Brewer plays in a lot of different bands, and according to Mark Freed, the Cultural Resources Coordinator at the Jones House, “This is one of his collaborations, the Foscoe Four.”

He went on to explain that, “Foscoe Four actually came out of a group. They first came together for a show that they called Dead of Winter, it was a bunch of local musicians who loved the Grateful Dead music, got together, and put together a couple nights of Grateful Dead music…and Dave’s Foscoe Four is one of the outshoots of that winter collaboration.”

Dead of Winter is now called Dead of Summer—seeing as it’s no longer winter—and Freed says that their sound is more, “sort of rock n’ roll, grateful dead music…and classic rock kind of sounds.”

Pilar Fotta is very excited to welcome everyone to the Jones House on Friday, and she says, “We just invite everybody in the community to come out. It’s a free concert on the lawn here at the Jones House, and the music is always excellent and we have a great crowd and a really great atmosphere up here; it’s beautiful.”

There’s free parking in downtown Boone after 5 o’clock and pets are allowed, so there’s no excuse to miss this! Grab your lawn chairs, pick up some friends, and go enjoy a gorgeous summer evening on the Jones House lawn.
