DAILY TUNES: The Outdoor Music Scene Sugar Mountain’s Wednesday Afternoon Concerts, Tonight: The Rockabillys

Daily Tunes will be bringing you live music performances in the High Country area for every day of the week. Get out there and enjoy the cool breezes and relaxing music of summer before it’s over!

It’s a gorgeous sunny Wednesday at Sugar Mountain, and the Golf and Tennis Pro Shop, overlooking the golf course, is hosting the Sugar Mountain Summer Concerts on the Deck. Children play cornhole and ping-pong and stay out of trouble—for a little while anyway. Adults relax on the deck, with enough tables and chairs to seat about 80 to 90 people, and listen to some catchy tunes.

Tonight, the Sugar Mountain Summer Concerts will host the Rockabillys, a dynamic group of four who celebrate the classic rock n’ roll of the 1950’s with their music. Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock n’ roll music, and some say it’s a blend between bluegrass, country, and rock n’ roll. The Rockabillys themselves will be performing in some spectacular attire—their getup is always dazzling— at the Caddyshack Cafe at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

The Town of Sugar Mountain began sponsoring their weekly concert series last year. Shelly Lane, who is with the Caddyshack, described the scene, saying that, “Our music is a lot of classic rock and local bands, so the atmosphere is actually amazing. Everyone gets up and dances, they make new friends, and we have people from all over Avery County and Watauga County…It’s a happy, upbeat atmosphere.”

The beautiful deck was expanded by 700 square feet specifically for this event, and the excited patrons can appreciate the extra space as they listen to music and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. Lane commented, “We have plenty of room for dancing!”

The Caddyshack Cafe hosts the Sugar Mountain Summer Concerts, which are becoming known as the “Grillin’ and Chillin’” events because of the $10 plate meals served by the Caddyshack Cafe. These meals, which include a main meal, a side, and a drink, get everyone grinning and having a good time while listening to the live music.

Lane says, “We do a different meal every week, and we do things from grilled hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill outside to roast pork loins. Tonight for instance is everyone’s favorite, which is surprising, but it’s meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a roll of course.”  The restaurant also has select beers and wines available for purchase.

Half of the deck where the performances take place is covered by an awning, and Sugar Mountain has purchased a large tent to put up on the other half, just in case it doesn’t end up actually being a gorgeous sunny day. If the weather gets particularly bad and windy, they will move the performances inside. However, if you prefer to sit inside anyway, they will have the windows open so everyone in the restaurant can hear the colorful music.

Next Wednesday night, the Shelby Rae Moore band, a stellar mix of blues, soul, and Americana, will perform at the Caddyshack Cafe.

Stop by Sugar Mountain’s Summer Concerts on the Deck at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for an evening of delightful music and entertainment. You can even make a day of your visit by playing a round of golf on Sugar Mountain’s public golf course!

The Caddyshack Cafe is in the Sugar Mountain Golf Pro Shop, which is located at 1054 Sugar Mountain Dr. For more information on the Sugar Mountain Summer Concerts, please call them at 828-898-1025 or visit https://seesugar.com/summer-concerts/
