DAILY TUNES: The Outdoor Music Scene Old Hampton Store’s Thursday Night Concert Series, this Thursday: Shelby Rae Moore

By Elly Murray

Daily Tunes will be bringing you live music performances in the High Country area for every day of the week. Get out there and enjoy the cool breezes and relaxing music of summer before it’s over!

On a pleasant little Thursday afternoon, a crowd of people begins to gather behind the historic Old Hampton Store and Barbeque in Linville for their summer concert series. If you follow the charming little brick path to the back of the store, there is a stunning wooden pavilion in front of a large grassy area, perfect for stretching out on a blanket and listening to music.

There are a few coppiced(split) trees, so the kids can’t really climb up them and hurt themselves, but they can sure pretend that they can. As it gets to be later in the night, the pavilion is lit up with little strings of lights that make the whole scene feel like something out of a fairytale.

These performances are free, but Old Hampton Store does ask that you make a donation to support Feeding Avery Families.  The music starts at 6 p.m. every Thursday, and according to Rebecca Chandler with the Old Hampton Store, “We have bands that play classic rock, and a little bit of folk and Americana, but it’s mostly music that you would dance to, that is upbeat. People love it, we have a crowd every Thursday night.”

Performing this Thursday is local favorite, Shelby Rae Moore and her accompanying band. This lively group performs a mix of blues, soul, and Americana, and Chandler describes Shelby, saying, ““She has a voice kind of like Nora Jones…she’s a solo singer but she has her own band. She does a variety of different genres.”

Next Thursday, the Johnson Brothers, an old-school trio who perform mostly Rock N’ Roll and Rockabilly, will take the stage at Old Hampton Store.

There’s indoor seating for anyone who wants to hang out inside, and they do have a few comfortable outdoor chairs. However Chandler comments that, “we recommend that people bring their own because these chairs sometimes fill up fast.”

Parking is provided both at the venue and off-site, and helpers will be directing parking at both locations. If you park off-site, there are shuttles available that go directly to Old Hampton Store.

The Old Hampton Restaurant has some incredible food from their menu available for purchase, including vegetarian options. They also have the Tavern open with a full bar, for purchasing beer or wine, and a separate outdoor stand for drinks as well.

They do request that no outside food or alcohol be brought in, but the provided food—and the performances—are so delicious that you won’t need to anyway.

Friendly dogs are also welcome on a leash, so bring your furry pal along for the show!

Old Hampton Store also has live music almost every week day inside from noon until 3 p.m., and sometimes they have music on Friday and Saturday nights as well, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  For the month of July, they’ll have music every single day except two of the Sundays.

They’re also hosting their Cornbread Cookoff this Saturday the 23rd. According to Chandler, “We have music beginning at 12, lasting until 9. We have Hot Duck Soup from 12 to 2 and BanDam from 3 until 9.”
