This Sunday, July 26, the Boone Area Cyclists will be hosting the 5th annual Boone Cyclo.Via Street Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Howard, Depot and Rivers streets will all be closed to vehicular traffic during this time, but they will all be open for what the BAC calls “human powered fun.”

This fun includes anything from biking and skateboarding to walking and dancing — anything that involves physical activity. There will also be several events to look forward to, such as the Adult Tricycle Race, in which you can create a team of four adults or go solo, and the BMX stunt show, featuring Fox Kinsman. Don’t forget to check out the competition between local mascots, as well, as they challenge each other on trikes.

At the street fest, it is guaranteed you will hear some really exciting music, acoustic and electronic all day, with a special appearance from Eya! Afrolachian Drum and Dance. Not only this, but there will be skateboard competitions at Local, a bike log pull to see who’s the strongest at Magic Cycles and a contest hosted by the Curves of Boone with their new hydraulic resistant machine to see how many reps you can do in 30 seconds.

There will also be a bike rally for kids in which Safe Kids NC and Safe Routes to School teach kids of all ages bike skills, safety and etiquette. Western Youth Network will be hosting bike decorating for anyone who’s interested.

Along with all of these activities, there will also be vendors all throughout the streets with food and interesting things that people can participate in and learn more about, including, but not limited to, Boone Community Bicycle Collective, High Country Recreation and Elkland Art Center.

For parking, it is requested that you use the Rivers Street parking deck, the Stadium Lot, or the Raley Lot.
