Ever wonder what the resident animals of Grandfather Mountain do after dark? Here is your opportunity to find out! Come to Grandfather Mountain on Saturday, Oct. 1 to participate in the Bonfire Delight, Creatures of the Night tour and the Owl Prowl.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., you can enjoy warm apple cider and hot chocolate by the fire, while listening to spooky story telling. Marshmallow roasting sticks will be available, but it is BYOS (Bring Your Own S’mores).
During the Creatures of the Night tour, guests will take a shuttle up to the top of the mountain accompanied by Grandfather staff members. There will be tours through the environmental wildlife habitats to see the black bears, bald eagles, mountain lions and more.
Next on the list, the Owl Prowl gives guests the chance to search for different types of owls by using a recorded owl call. “On our last Owl Prowl, the barred owls were very, very responsive, talking back a lot,” chief habitats curator Christie Tipton said.
The cost is $20 per person and you have to be at least eight years old to participate. Space is limited, so you will need to register online here!
Guests are encouraged to dress warmly and bring blankets, flashlights and s’mores ingredients to enjoy around the fire. For more information, call (828) 733-8715, or email habitats@grandfather.com.
