The project will begin once the NCDOT purchases the land needed to install the poles into the ground, Daniel Adams, division traffic engineer with the NCDOT, said.

The Town of Boone requested that the NCDOT look at both the Poplar Grove S. and N.C. 105 intersection and the Poplar Grove Connector and N.C. 105 intersection, Adams said.  The former did not meet the peak volume requirements to install a traffic signal, but the latter did.

The traffic signal should be installed before the Appalachian State fall semester begins, Adams said.

NCDOT contracted the project through Mooresville-based Consolidated Power Inc.

“It’s a done deal,” Ashley Brinkley, project manager of Consolidated Power, said. “We’re just waiting on Raleigh to stamp it.”
