Construction of “University Outlook” continues on into the New Year. About this time last year, the Boone Town Council approved the rezoning of the 0.7-acre property to a general business district.

University Outlook is a development by Marty Rice of MET Holdings. Rice has owned the land since the ‘80s and said it was “time to update” the property. The mixed-use project consists of 24 efficiency apartments and 2,760 square feet of commercial space.

The property is located at the intersection of Rivers Street and Blowing Rock Road, in between the old Parthenon restaurant and an Appalachian South apartment complex. The area is enjoying a bit of a renaissance with this project and the neighboring renovation.

The old Parthenon Café closed last May. David Welsh of WV Investments leased the property and is currently in the process of renovating the place into an independent restaurant and bar called Tank’s Tacos y Tequila, which is expected to open in the fall.

Marty Rice said that the goal is for the property to ready for occupancy by the first of July and according to the contractor the property is currently on schedule. Each efficiency comes with a washer and dryer.

“University Outlook” will be managed by Boone HC Rentals, which is owned by Todd Rice and Bill Aceto. Todd Rice noted that one of the unique aspects of this project is an outdoor patio with pavers fronting the highway.

Rice said that he’s still in talks with a couple prospective commercial tenants.
