Activities at this family event will include kickball, arts and crafts, music, games, and non-partisan voter registration. Representatives from local public service organizations including law enforcement & fire fighters have been invited to participate in the festivities and conversations. Music will be provided by Graham Ferrell, best described as acoustic, country blues.

The goal of the event is to introduce the newly formed Watauga County NAACP Branch, a non-partisan civil rights organization; to build diverse relationships across the community; and to inspire citizens to exercise their right to vote. All people of good will are welcome. Brookshire Park is located at 250 Brookshire Rd., off U.S. 421, east of Boone. Hospitality House is located at 338 Brook Hollow Rd. in Boone, just across U.S. 421 from Brookshire Park.

Since 1909, the NAACP has brought together people of diverse demographics to work for equal rights for all people and to end racism in our society. In 2014, the Watauga County Branch of the NAACP, chartered February 15 of this year, shares this focus with a special emphasis on voter rights and voter participation.

NAACP monthly general meetings are open to the public. The Watauga County NAACP branch meets the third Sunday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 381 E. King St. in Boone. In addition, members of the organization will be offering continuing voter registration (and registration updating) at area events.
