On Friday, November 2nd, Lost Province Brewing Co. (130 N Depot St) will welcome Sylvia Rose Novak to the stage around 7:30pm. Novak recently released her third album, Someone Else’s War, on October 5th, 2018. Her alt-country music features alluring violin, fiddle, and mandolin accompanied by a talented rock band. Novak has been a singer/songwriter since 2012, releasing her first album, Chasing Ghosts, soon after in 2014. This debut album earned Novak international interest, with critics commenting on the artist’s lyrical focus on topics such as love, murder, and regret balancing with powerful, bewitching musical tones.
In the same year, Novak joined the Alabama-based band Five-Shot Jack as their bassist, fiddler, female vocalist, and primary songwriter. She released her second album, The Last Three Years, in 2016, extensively touring the southern United States and opening for artists such as Chris Knight, American Aquarium, The Mulligan Brothers, Mike and the Moonpies, and Belle Adair since the release of Chasing Ghosts.
Growing up with two musical parents allowed Novak the desire and talent to easily pick up new instruments throughout the years, such as piano, trombone, bass, mandolin, violin, and banjo. A childhood immersed in music by influential artists including Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen, coupled with an early exposure to Southern Gothic literature led Novak’s music to evolve into an Americano style with Southern Gothic lyrics to create an enticing and unique sound. Her most recent album Someone Else’s War follows a narrative regarding the country’s current political climate and commentary on human nature. Come out to Lost Province, free of charge, November 2nd at 7:30 pm and enjoy the seductive and charming musical talent of the on-the-rise artist, Sylvia Rose Novak.
