The Children’s Council of Watauga County to Host 3rd Annual Party with a Purpose on June 25, Ticket Sales End Today

By Katie Benfield

It’s the summer season, and it’s time to party! But where at? And for what?

Look no further, a celebration is coming your way for an amazing cause in the High Country.

On Sunday, June 25, from 2-5 p.m., the Children’s Council of Watauga County will be hosting its 3rd annual signature fundraiser, Party With A Purpose, at the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock to raise money for children’s programs and to also celebrate forty years of being active in the High Country.

“We want it to be a celebration,” Mary Scott, Program and Outreach Coordinator of the Children’s Council of Watauga County, said. “This organization has been providing services that directly support children in our community for the past forty years, and we wanted to celebrate with the community.”

The Children’s Council was founded in 1977 in order to provide resources and support to families with children. Over the last forty years, The Children’s Council has continued to grow and focus on promoting and preparing children to be successful in school and to lead happy, healthy lives in a nurturing, supportive community.

The Party with a Purpose is geared towards raising money to fund crucial services for children that are provided by The Children’s Council, and proceeds from the event will go towards this cause.

When you first arrive at the Green Park Inn for the fundraiser, you will receive a glass of champagne. The fun doesn’t stop there, however. Throughout the event, there will be heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live music by the Watauga High School Honors Orchestra Quintet led by Roxanne Topper. Along with this, there will be some fun games and interactive silent and live auctions with the best items in the High Country.

“We have some really great packages this year,” Scott said. “There are going to be Tweetsie tickets, an Asheville getaway weekend, Biltmore tickets, family adventure packages, a beer lovers package and a lot of other amazing things.”

Along with this, according to Scott, there will also be some information geared towards informing everyone in attendance about what The Children’s Council has been working on recently.

“We will talk a little bit about the organization, what we have been doing and all the different programs that we’ve been able to start through community support,” Scott said. “So, it’s a good opportunity to come out and learn about us and what’s been happening.”

Although the Children’s Council does get some funding from the state, the organization needs community support in order to continue and start certain programs.

“We were able to start three new programs this past year just from the community support, and they are some of our favorite programs,” Scott said. “We want to continue to meet the needs in the community, and we need community support to do so.”

So, put on your party shoes and get on down to the Green Park Inn on June 25 to learn about and support a wonderful, local organization that has continuously provided for the needs of the children within our community.

Ticket sales end tonight, but don’t worry, there are plenty of opportunities and ways to secure your tickets. They are $40 a piece.
