Jan. 20, 2015. This winter, High Country residents will have yet another activity to enjoy on chilly Saturday nights. Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock will be home of Bonfire Nights, a new winter event held at a new bonfire pit on the lawn each Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m.

The Bonfire Nights feature live music, s’mores packets available for purchase for $5 each, an outdoor bar and special winter drink specials. No reservations are required to enjoy bonfire nights and the events are open to the community.

“We are excited to offer this festive gathering location to guests and locals,” said Kayla Bower of Chetola Resort.

“We have high hopes for the entertainment it will bring to those that are not scared of a little High Country winter weather.”

The Bonfire Nights will be held every Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m. starting this weekend. The newly constructed fire pit is a nine-foot wood-burning fire pit resting by Chetola Lake in front of Timberlake’s Restaurant at the resort. Surrounding the pit are benches and furniture for guests to sit on while live music is performed by local musicians.

“We had our first night not too long ago, and we had over 100 people, it was just extraordinary,” said Deedee Taylor, dinner manager at Chetola Resort. “When you think of the mountains, you think of bonfires and this is a great event for the whole family.

Along with the $5 s’mores packages available at Timberlake’s Restaurant, bartender and cocktail service for winter drink specials will be featured each night. Try out your new winter favorite with selections including:

  • Peppermint Mocha Martini
  • S’mores Spiked Hot Cocoa
  • Ski Slope Cider with Tuaca or Caramel Vodka
  • Hot Toddy
  • Irish Coffee
  • Eggnog Martini

Since the bonfires have proven to be so popular so far, Chetola expects to continue them through the whole year.

“It is a good way to make a whole night out of Chetola,” said Taylor. “People can come and have dinner with us and then go out to the bonfire for a while. It’s a great atmosphere and a beautiful setting that just can’t be beat.”
