Sept. 5, 2014. The 12th annual Mile High Kite Festival took place on Sunday, Aug. 31 over Labor Day Weekend in Beech Mountain. The festival included plenty of colorful kites sailing through the skies at the Town Meadow.
Kids of all ages enjoyed flying their kites in the Beech Mountain breezes more than 5,000 feet above sea level. Aside from kite flying, the festival also included parachute kites, face painting, craft vendors and lots of delicious food.
The event was sponsored by the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce along with the Richmond Air Force Kite Club and the Wings Across Carolina Kiting and Okra Society out of Charlotte. One side of the meadow was devoted to demonstrations and the rest was devoted to kiting and activities for the general public.
