Love Your Melon: Check Out the Newest Club on Appalachian State University’s Campus

By Emily Willis

The newest club at Appalachian State is giving students the opportunity to supply children battling cancer with confidence and support! The club makes beanie hats and other merchandise, and proceeds go towards various cancer research foundations.

The club initially started with two college students from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. The mission statement is, “Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to giving a hat to every child battling cancer in America as well as supporting nonprofit organizations who lead the fight against pediatric cancer.”

The club is currently planning fundraisers to raise money for the Pinky Swear Foundation and CureSearch. Appalachian State’s campus has the opportunity to not only raise money, but to also reach out to families in the High Country.

“We have the power to have an impact on children and families lives,” says Taylor Adamof, the club’s public relations manager. “We would love to extend out into the community to help make a difference.”

Last semester, Appalachian State’s Love Your Melon club was able to host a fundraiser at The Rock for a child battling cancer here in the High Country. Club members spent time with the family and personally gave each family member a beanie.
