Chatter Across Internet on Upcoming App State – Miami Showdown Set for Saturday

Compiled by Jesse Wood

Below is a roundup of some of the stories about the App State v. Miami game on Saturday.

ESPN: Miami taking road trip to Appalachian State seriously

“Looking to see Appalachian State host its first-ever Power 5 conference foe this weekend? Better get ready to shell out some serious cash.

“As the High County Press reported, tickets for Appalachian State’s game against Miami are going for as much as $749 on resale sites after the game sold out almost immediately after tickets went on sale this summer.

“For the Mountaineers, Miami’s visit is a boon. Just two weeks after App State nearly upended Tennessee on the road, the Hurricanes’ trip to Boone, North Carolina, provides some legitimacy for a program that has only been playing at the FBS level for two years. For Miami, however, the trip is, well, not ideal … ”

USA Today: No. 25 Miami knows a huge test awaits at Appalachian State

For No. 25 Miami, simply getting to Appalachian State is going to be a challenge.

Winning may prove even tougher.

The Hurricanes (2-0) will fly into a regional airport that can’t accommodate a full-size jet, so Miami will take a smaller-than-usual plane. As such, some support staff got bumped from the charter for commercial flights. And then there’s lodging issues; a long ride awaits the players from the airport to their hotel 20 minutes from Appalachian State’s campus in Boone, North Carolina, while school officials and cheerleaders will stay even farther away.

Those are mere inconveniences.

The real test comes Saturday at noon, when the Hurricanes face an upset-capable opponent and what will be a frenzied crowd.

Yosef’s Cabin: The U – The Most Wicked, Best and Worst Team in College Football History

“There is no other team like the Miami Hurricanes in the history of college football. Several of the great programs have a lot of similarities, but Miami is different. A private school in a major city, bursting onto the scene with no real tradition, bringing with them swagger and attitude and then the falls and the troubles that came with it and everything in between. Oklahoma played Boomer Sooner with people dressed a faux cowboys and ran the ball, Michigan has Hail to the Victors and the M Club banner. Miami had a pro-style offense, that 3-4 defense, 2 Live Crew and booty dancing …”

Miami Herald: Kaaya: cool, calm and in control as he strives to improve at App State

“All eyes were on Brad Kaaya to start the season. Still are.

Kaaya, projected by some NFL analysts to be one of the top two quarterbacks taken in the draft should he leave after his junior year, threw two interceptions in the first half last week against FAU, is 11th in passing offense in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and ninth in the ACC in passing efficiency.

However, the No. 25 Hurricanes (2-0) have scored a school-record 108 points in their first two games, are thriving on the ground, and have a defense that to this point has been smothering. Kaaya, the man who makes the offense go with the help of new coach and quarterback guru Mark Richt, is not panicking.

No need to yet as Miami prepares to travel to Boone, North Carolina, to take on Appalachian State (1-1) at noon Saturday (ESPN) … ”

“For the first time, the Miami Hurricanes and the Appalachian State Mountaineers will meet on the gridiron with an ACC team making a rare trip to Boone, N.C. The crew for the noon game in an area known as “The High Country” includes play-by-play announcer Dave Pasch, color analyst Greg McElroy and sideline reporter Tom Luginbill … ”

SBNation’s State of the U: Clinic Talk: Miami at App State

“Appalachian State is best known as the school that upset #5 Michigan in 2007 on their way to the FCS national title. The Mountaineers have since transitioned to the FBS level and Sun Belt Conference. So what has App State done the past two seasons? QB Taylor Lamb has gone 17-6 in 23 starts and even though the Mountaineers lost to Tennessee in overtime top open 2016, they’re still on course for a great season and a nerve-wracking showdown in Boone, NC for the ‘Canes of Miami …”

Despite starting three freshman linebackers in the opener and rotating a sophomore defensive back in at one spot in the second game, the Hurricanes have dominated their first two opponents by a combined 108-13 score.
