Changes in Blowing Rock: Walk-in Reception To Wish Outgoing Manager Well, New Building Inspector Hired

July 12, 2013. Here is a weekly update from the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. Along with wishing Scott Hildebran, who is stepping down from his town manager’s post, well and welcoming a new building inspector, many things are happening in Blowing Rock in the coming days. 

Goodbye Scott!
Scott Hildebran is leaving his position as Blowing Rock Town Manager effective July 12, following 10+ years of service to our town. Scott will become Assistant City Manager in Morganton. A walk-in reception will be held in Town Hall on Friday, July 12. Stop by and wish Scott well and thank him for his service to our town.

Planning & Inspections Welcomes New Building Inspector
We would like to welcome John Warren as Building Inspector for Blowing Rock. John previously served as Building Inspector with the town from 2000-2006 and also with the Town of Boone. He is a state licensed electrical contractor, holds State of NC Level Three certificates in building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical and also possesses a State Level One certificate in fire. John is a native of Watauga County and he and his family live in Vilas. Welcome John!

Seminar Has Been Cancelled
The Affordable Healthcare Seminar scheduled to be held at The New Public House has been cancelled due to President Obama pushing back the employer mandate until January 1, 2015. A new seminar will be rescheduled at a future date.

Altapass Foundation Annual Dinner/Dance Fundraiser
The Altapass Foundation’s Annual Dinner/Dance will be held on Friday, August 16, from 6 to 9:30pm. This year’s theme is The Great Gatsby. The event will feature entertainment by Brian Gurl and Band. Dinner will be catered by Switzerland Café. The cost is $75 per person with proceeds going to the Altapass Foundation. Beer and wine will be available. Come dressed in the styles of the Roaring Twenties and compete in the Best Male/Female Costume and Best Male/Female Charleston competitions. There will also be a trivia contest and a silent auction for the privilege of a dance with the winner of the Charleston contest. Please join us!

July Meeting of Orchard Book Club
The July meeting of the Orchard at Altapass Book Club will take place on Wednesday, July 31, from 10:30 to noon. The selected book for July is Under the Mercy Trees, by Heather Newton.
