Welcome in 2014; Bring in the New Year with One of These High Country New Year’s Celebrations

Dec. 30, 2013. As 2013 comes to a close, residents and visitors in the High Country start looking for ways to celebrate the coming of the New Year. 2014 is closer than ever, where will you be on New Year’s Eve?

Whether you are attending a New Year’s Gala, a family friendly event, a bonfire or a day-long celebration, there is so much to do in the High Country to celebrate the coming of 2014, and many area venues are gearing up to ensure that everyone has a great time bringing in the new year. 

Check out all of these awesome things to do in the area for the coming of 2014, and make it a night to remember!

The Green Park Inn will host the third annual New Year’s Eve Gala. The New Year’s Eve celebration will feature an early seating at 6 p.m. for $42 per person with the regular 9 p.m. seating priced at $90 per person. Offered that night will be a spectacular five-course special menu featuring delectable items like shrimp cake with shrimp sauce, tempura portobello, mesclun greens salad with red wine vinaigrette, grilled sirloin steak or horseradish crusted salmon and to finish it all off, a banana split cake. The Gala will officially begin at 9 p.m., along with the live music from The Harris Brothers. The cover charge of $20 for the band will begin at 10:30, which includes the music charge, champagne toast and midnight snacks. 

Vidalia on King Street in Boone will host a New Year’s Eve Dinner on Dec. 31 from 5-10 p.m. Cost is $55 per person, plus $25 per person for wine pairings. Selections on this special menu include scrumptious items like creamy potato soup, butternut squash salad, crispy pork belly, twice-cooked yams, petite fillet, mahi mahi, flourless chocolate torte and more. Casa Rustica in Boone is holding a New Year’s Eve celebration celebration and midnight champagne toast to bring in 2014. Music for the night will be provided by a Jazz Trio with Keith McCutchen, Joe Crosswell and Rodney Ballard. Reservations for this event are highly recommended. The 1861 Farmhouse in Valle Crucis will host a New Year’s Eve dinner on Dec. 31 for $60 per person. Options on their deliciously crafted menu include items like citrus spinach salad, butternut bisque, pecan crusted trout, pork tenderloin, stuffed chicken medallions, black forest cherry torte and much more. Appalachian Ski Mtn. will host it’s annual New Year’s Eve Extravaganza on Dec. 31. Join Appalachian Ski Mtn. for exciting activities and more, including moonlight ice skating starting at 10 p.m., restaurant specials from 9 p.m., torchlight skiing and of course the fireworks display. Sugar Mountain will hold its annual New Year’s Eve Celebration Party on Dec. 31. Join Sugar Mountain for many exciting adventures, including a torch light parade at 11:45 p.m., an extravagant fireworks display at 11:55 p.m. and live entertainment by The Johnson Brothers from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. Food and refreshments are available at the Third Floor Cafeteria for all ages, and the Last Run Lounge for ages 21 and older. Beech Mountain Resort will celebrate New Year’s Eve with their own celebration. The Beech Tree will open at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 for live music including two bands and a DJ for those ages 21 and older. Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock will offer their regular menu plus New Year’s specials all week long through Dec. 31 for lunch and dinner everyday and brunch on Sunday. The restaurant will be closed on New Year’s Day. Bistro Roca is also pleased to be associated with The New Public House and Hotel, serving breakfast everyday from 8-11 a.m. at 239 Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock. Twigs in Blowing Rock will host New Year’s Eve with dinner served from 5:30 – 10 p.m. Chef Matt Franklin will have some fantastic New Year’s Eve specials on the menu, so make sure you get your reservations fast! The bar will serve dinner from 5:30-10 p.m. on a first come-first served basis. Live music will start at 9:30 p.m. with the blues and rock n’ roll stylings of the Jacob Johnson Band. Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock will host New Year’s Eve Dinner at Timberlake’s from 5-9:30 p.m. The night will include live music from 6-10 p.m. by the Americana folk group Redleg Husky, complimentary chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne for each guest and dinner specials including grilled angus beef filet and Maine lobster tail along with the regular menu. Char in Boone will host its New Year’s Eve Bash starting at 10:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door for a champagne toast at midnight and a DJ dance party all night long. A special five course dinner will be offered that night as well until 8:30. Canyons in Blowing Rock will host a New Year’s Eve Party with Mountain Radio. There will be a $10 cover charge for the event which includes a French champagne toast at midnight. For more information, call Canyons at 828-295-7661.

Buckeye Recreation Center in Beech Mountain will host a Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Bash on Dec. 31. This family friendly event will include food, drinks, games, music and a kid-friendly countdown to the new year which will have families home by 9 p.m. For more information about this event, call 828-387-3003.

Joy Bistro in Boone will host a New Year’s Eve Chef Tasting for their New Year’s Eve celebration. The tasting begins at 6:30 and the cost is $70 per person. Menu items include lobster bisque, parmesan polenta cake, beet salad, Alaskan halibut, pork tenderloin, risotto, blood orange granita and so much more. Murphy’s Restaurant and Pub will host New Year’s Eve festivities beginning at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31. The Naked Gods will headline a special New Year’s show beginning at 10 p.m. for those 21 and older. The cover charge for the night will be $5.
