Case for October Death of Male, 28, Closed by Boone PD, Ruled Heroin Overdose

On Oct. 18, 2015, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Boone Police Department responded to investigate the report of a 28-year-old unresponsive male. This individual was identified as Anthony ‘Rocky’ Robert Surace.

Surace was found inside the bathroom of his residence located at 1340 West King Street in Boone. During the investigation, evidence gathered indicated that Mr. Surace’s death was most likely due to an accidental drug overdose.

On Feb. 29, 2016, the Boone Police Department received the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Autopsy Report. This report confirmed Boone Police Investigators’ suspicions that narcotics were involved. Mr. Surace’s cause of death was officially listed in this report as, “Drug (heroin) toxicity.” The manner of death was listed as accidental.

“Our investigators have maintained communication with the family and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Mr. Surace’s family and friends,” Chief of Police Dana Crawford said in a statement.

HCPress.com reported a few weeks back that drug overdoses – be it heroin or prescription drugs – killed at least six people in Boone last year.
