Appalachian Alumna Carole P. Wilson Appointed to Appalachian State University Board of Trustees

Feb. 5, 2014. Carole P. Wilson of Raleigh has been appointed by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors to fill the term of former Appalachian State University Board of Trustees member Matthew Szulik, which expires in June 2017. Szulik resigned from the Board of Trustees in September 2013.

Wilson is a 1975 graduate of Appalachian and co-chair, with her husband Brad Wilson, of the Campaign for Appalachian, the university’s comprehensive fundraising campaign.

A former public school teacher and private tutor, Wilson also worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation for four years.

She is a member of the Yosef Club and has served on Appalachian’s Alumni Council. She also is active in her community with organizations such as SAFEChild, N.C. Partnership for Children, N.C. Museum of Art and the Women’s Network-Connecting for Change, a program of the N.C. Community Foundation and Durham Nativity School.

The Wilsons recently established the Wilson Scholars Program, the most prestigious merit scholarship program at the university. The first scholarships will be awarded in the 2014-15 academic year.

To honor the couple for their longstanding support of the university, a new honors and student leadership and residential hall complex on campus was named the Brad and Carole Wilson Honors and Engagement Community.
