Landscapes abound at Carlton Gallery for the 33rd Autumn Group Exhibition. The gallery is filled with paintings which feature subjects close to the local and regional artists’ heart and home – forests, trees, barns, ponds, paths and more. These landscape paintings on exhibit are in different sizes – from the largest – 48 x 60 to the smallest – 4 x 5 that act as thumbprints of the landscape. Each landscape shows reposed majesty that exhibits color contrasts and perfectly executed layers of light and shadow.
Local artist, Egi Antonaccio, exhibits landscape paintings imbued with bold colors and energetic brushstrokes, consistent with Antonaccio’s message that every moment of the day is full of life and the world is beautiful. He renders on canvas the High Country’s landscapes with colors, brushstrokes, pallet knives and values which become part of his imaginative compositions. Antonaccio plans a painting demonstration at the gallery on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 2-4 p.m. where one has the opportunity to see an impressionist landscape rendered which exemplifies his ingenious imagination.
Antonaccio’s unique interpretation of the landscape makes his work stand out and causes the viewer to pause. He wants his paintings to instill memories or evoke feelings in the viewer while encouraging their own associations and interpretations. Collectors of his beautiful artwork consistently discover something new each time they view it, which is a credit to the painting’s complexity along with Antonaccio’s masterful technique.
A landscape painting demonstration can be viewed by plein air artist, Linda Apriletti, from noon to 2 p.m. Apriletti ‘s landscape paintings are well ordered meditations on nature’s logical organization and inspirational scenery. A native of Florida, she spends time in the High Country in order to capture on canvas the flora and fauna, along with the spectacular landscapes. She finds that painting outside engages all the senses which leads to a deeper experience than working from reference material.
Apriletti feels that plein air painting allows one to feel the air, smell the trees and meadow grasses, as well as see colors that one cannot get from a photograph. She says that plein air painting is just her and the scenery in which she is captivated by light and its effects on the landscape. There is a simplicity and clarity in her landscape paintings along with a real feeling for color that is her own. She utilizes a freshness of paint handling that conveys the energy found in the plein air painting experience.
