On December 15, 2015, Larry Junior Byrd, 30, plead guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle. Mr. Byrd also admitted to being a habitual felon.
The crime occurred on May 30, 2015, when a Watauga County sheriff’s deputy found Mr. Byrd in possession of a Toyota RAV4 that had been stolen from Harnett County. Some of Mr. Byrd’s prior convictions include possession of a stolen vehicle, breaking or entering, and selling marijuana.
The Honorable Gary Gavenus, Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, sentenced Mr. Byrd to a minimum of 6 years and 5 months, and to a maximum of 8 years and 9 months in prison.
“My office continues to focus on the prosecution of those who continually terrorize our community,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement. “By identifying Mr. Byrd as a habitual felon we were able to take another repeat offender off the streets. I would like to thank Assistant District Attorney Matt Rupp and the Watauga County Sheriff’s office for their hard work in seeing that Mr. Byrd was brought to justice.”
