Local nonprofit BSG Events, Inc. announces the 3rd Winter Warmer Project (WWP).
This Saturday, Nov. 12, BSG will collect clean gently used hats, coats, gloves, and blankets at the Watauga Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. to noon. All items collected will be distributed to those in need throughout the High County.
Already BSG riders have donated over 500 sets of thermal underwear and 240 pairs of DeFeet socks. In addition, BSG opened up early registration for Blood Sweat and Gears. Riders paid a $30 premium earmarked for WWP to register early and guarantee their spot into BSG. The money is used to purchase new coats, hats, gloves, and blankets during post Holiday sales at local retail stores. This year, to date, over $5,000 has been collected.
“After our first two year’s efforts we learned that donations quickly diminish once the Holiday season is over. We all know that winter weather can last into May, so our plan is keep a flow of assistance going throughout the entire cold weather season.”
“Over the past two years we were able to collect over 300 coats and blankets, purchased another 400 coats and blankets, few hundred sets of hats, scarves, gloves/mitttens, dozens of pairs of boots, over 1000 sets of thermal underwear, and contributed LED light bulbs and financial assistance to the WeCan program.”
“Our goal is simple, helping our community stay warm one revolution at a time.”
